Coolant level check

Introduction

Use this guide to check the coolant level in a 2007 - 2010 R56 Mini Cooper S.

1. Equipment

Gather the following equipment to complete this guide.

2. Check

  1. Park your car on level ground.

  2. Ensure the engine is fully cooled before removing the coolant reservoir cap.

    If there is still some residual heat, carefully unscrew the cap while keeping constant downward pressure with the thumb on your other hand.

    As the cap nears removal, you may hear a sudden release of escaping air. After this release, the cap should be safe to fully unscrew and remove.

  3. Turn your torch on and shine it down the coolant reservoir cap opening.

    With the torch shining down, give the reservoir tank a little shake to reveal the coolant level

    There's min and max marks to the left of the tank but it should sit around the reservoir tank seam where the top and bottom halves of the tank join.
