Rear seats removal
Introduction
Use this guide to remove the rear seats from a 2007 R56 Mini Cooper S.
1. Equipment
Gather the following equipment to complete this guide. The link(s) below direct you to the exact product(s) I used.
2. Removal
-
Start by opening the front passenger door and collapsing the passenger seat by pulling the lever.
-
Pull directly up on the nearside edge of the rear bottom seat.
The corner is secured by a little metal prong clicking into a clip on the floor, it can be a little stubborn and might require two hands.
-
Step over the center console repeat step 2.2 for the offside edge.
-
With both edges loose, you just need to unhook the center of the rear bottom seat (if it's hooked) as circled in the picture below.
Skip to the end of step 5 to see an image of the hook.
-
Using your fist, push down while rotating the seat clockwise and the seat should unhook and come away.
If it's being stubborn, use your knee and push from the other end of the seat.
-
Pop out the car and open the boot. Mines a bit messy with emergency stuff, dont judge 🙃.
-
If you dont want to damage your head rests on the fuel pump entry bolts when we collapsd the seat backs, you might want to remove them. Alternatively, place a towel over the bolts.
Hold in the side button while pulling up the head rest and it should come right out.
-
Next, collapse each rear seat back by pulling the lever while pushing the seat forward. These latches can be a bit stubborn so it might require a few attempts.
P.S I tided the boot...
-
Focusing on the center hinge, you'll notice each seat back is secured by a metal clip hooking over a circular barbed stud coming out of the seat.
Stick a flathead screwdriver into the metal clip, pry until the clip comes off the stud. While keeping tension on the clip, pull the seat directly up and the seat should pop out.
Let it rest there and move to the other side of the seat.
-
Finally, pull back the seat corner to reveal the hinge keeping the seat locked into the car.
Simply lift the seat up and down while pulling towards you until the seat pops out. The seat will only come out at a specfic angle as indicated by the below photos.
- Repeat step 10 for the other seat back.
🏁 Conclusion
Reassembly is the reverse of removal.
